The Insecure Writer's Support Group
I can't believe it's that time already. Where did the last 30 days go? It almost feels like I walked through some kind of timeslip, and came out a full month in the future. I guess time DOES fly when you're... what was I doing again?
In case you don't know what I am going on about here, I am of course referring to the Insecure Writer's Support Group, or IWSG as some like to call it. It is a group started by Alex J. Cavanaugh, where members can share their worries and whatnot. Last month was my first ever IWSG post, and I was indeed overwhelmed by the level of support I received from members of the group. So I'd like to say a quick thank you to all those that popped in and left a comment (or two).
Now, there's a lot currently going on with me, as a writer, and so many reasons to feel insecure. But I'll still like to keep today's post short (and hopefully sweet). As you may or may not know, I decided to launch that crowdfunding campaign I spoke about in last month's post. This was after much consideration of course, but with very little planning beyond telling everyone I knew. I figured if I could tell enough friends, family, and the occasional complete stranger, my campaign would be able to receive at least enough contributions to get placement in the Indiegogo directory. Boy was I wrong.
After nearly two weeks of badgering said friends and family, I had received enough empty promises to power a nuclear submarine. It got to a point that I started to feel like I was the only one who was ever going to care about my project. But then I saw this post by one of my blogging buddies, and I realized I was not as alone as I originally thought.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone who has so far contributed, tweeted, emailed, or done what little they could to help me spread the word about my campaign. And for those of you who haven't, what are you waiting for?
Hi Michael, I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. I am not able to help - the money I have needs to be invested in my own projects (and feeding my kids). Are you focusing on the first book? That would be cheaper, and the profits could go towards the second. Perhaps the ambition is just a little too big at the moment. It's good to think big, but smaller is more achievable.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand, Lisa. And I indeed considered focusing on just one book at a time. But the idea of running separate campaigns for each book seemed too stressful. Also, there was the six-month time constraint to be equally considered. All that said, I'm hoping to raise enough money from this campaign to produce at least the first two or three books...
DeleteJust visited your campaign site again, and me and my hubby are crossing our fingers for you. :) I hope things start picking up because it sounds like a really good project!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jaime. Thanks. You guys are pure awesomeness. *does happy dance*
DeleteDon't give up on it Michael!
ReplyDeleteFundraising is never easy Michael. Every dollar counts! Congrats on getting contributions. Tony is awesome BTW
DeleteYes, he is. Thanks. :)
DeleteI feel bad that I didn't get to it before today, but I contributed! And I'm sure more people will soon. It's a fabulous sounding project. I can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteAwwww. Thanks, bud. This means a lot to me, especially coming from you. :)
DeleteI'm off to check out your project!
ReplyDeleteOkay. *crosses fingers*
DeleteYou've got some money finally! That's so good to see. I wish that I had gone about my post a little differently in hindsight, but I don't regret it. I truly expected that you'd get a little more support. It's a learning experience all the way around.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is. Thanks, man. For the support and everything. :)
DeleteMichael I am sure your project will eventually be victorious...The harder the battle the sweeter the victory. Keep on fighting :).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Unikorna. I really do pray and hope so.
DeleteMichael, your goal is not too ambitious! I don't know why I got the support that I did, I wish I could multiply it for others! The main thing I did was posting to Facebook, and asking that everyone I know take 2 seconds to post it on THEIR facebook walls as well. Even if you don't get all the $, you definitely should go ahead and do what you can with what you get. Email everyone you know and ask them to email everyone THEY know! I had a few donations from complete strangers! You can do this! I'm looking forward to supporting this project! Don't lose heart, but trust that God has it all under control, in His timing!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie. And congrats for reaching your goal. I look forward to reading the book. :D
DeleteGood timing, Michael, as I didn't know about your campaign. There are so many things that bloggers have to do and some give back in different ways - commenting, reviews, mentioning bloggers in blog posts...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Versatile Blogger Award you gave me a thousand years ago, I've mentioned it in my new post.
Thanks, Peaches. :)
DeleteOne thing that's hard about being in such limbo period financially in my life is that I can't support awesome writer buddies as much as I would like to. But I sincerely wish you the best of luck! Keep us posted, and maybe when my life isn't so unstable I'll be able to do more for you.
