Reflections on the 2014 A-Z Challenge

Hey, fellow 2014 Blogging from A to Z participants. It looks like we've made it to the end of yet another one. I've just earned my third straight survivor's badge (woo hoo), which I promise to wear proudly. And as has become customary after every Challenge, participants are expected to write a reflections posts, where they get to sound off about their experiences.

For those of you who missed it, my theme for this year was video game franchises. My decision to participate was made at the very last minute, so as you can imagine, I never did get to write any of my posts beforehand. What I did get to do though was delve deep into memories from my childhood, revisiting some of the video games that have helped shape me into the person that I am today.

Unfortunately, unlike previous years, I was unable to visit as many blogs as I would have loved to. I barely got enough free time from work to write and put each day's post up. To make matters worse, I also experienced an issue with my custom domain. As a result, my blog was inaccessible for the better part of the Challenge. I've since then sorted out said issue, and my special thanks go out to J. Lenni Dorner for going the extra mile to bring it to my attention.

My thanks also go out to the various A to Z Challenge co-hosts, and of course to all those who visited my blog or left me a comment. Even those who weren't all that into video games. Our little interactions were what made pushing through the Challenge worthwhile.

  1. I had no problem accessing your blog last month.
I bet that was fun going through the memories of those games. You had a fun theme this year.

    1. Thanks, Alex, and I am glad your ability to view my blog wasn't affected by my custom domain's downtime.

Yeah, I quote that movie on occasion. No idea why.

You know, that movie could be a video game. Okay, not a GOOD video game, but like a Zynga game. Upgrade your robot to human! LOL. Don't mind me, I'm crazy.

Stopping by after the #atozchallenge to check out your reflection post!

    1. LOL. As lame as that game sounds, it might actually make a decent casual game. :D

    1. Thanks, Tony. I guess only those that tried to visit my blog through the linky link were affected.

  4. Well done on completing the challenge.

Like you, I struggled a little with visiting the blogs as I didn't have as much access to the internet as I might otherwise have had (due to when Easter fell). I'm trying to make up for it now by visiting sites on the Reflections and Road Trip lists.

  5. Hi Michael

Just catching up with a few of your posts since I've been away (which, in fact is around 6 months of being away!). Love your theme for the A-Z this year. I'm gutted I missed out on reading them daily, but I'm catching up now! I grew up on the Gamecube and spent a great deal of my youth as a Nintendo fanboy, so pleased to see both Zelda and Mario making the list (although I am gutted Metroid also begins with 'M' and thus didn't get a post all to itself!).

Anyways, how are things going in your writing? I notice that your book website is gone now (boo!). Hope it is all going well.

    1. Hello, Ed. It's nice to have you back and posting again. I was a Nintendo fanboy too, and I was indeed gutted as well that I couldn't say more about the Metroid games. Perhaps I'd have to find an excuse sometime in the future to do just that. :)

The writing has been slow lately, all thanks to work and life getting in the way. As for the book website, the one year hosting plan I paid for expired and I wasn't able to renew it at the time. But I'm considering initiating a domain transfer to an alternative host, as soon as I get around to it. :D
